04/18/10 • Patty Larkin w/ Special Guests The Nields • 08:00 PM

Musical troubadour Patty Larkin has been redefining the boundaries of folk-urban pop music for more than 25 years with her inventive guitar wizardry and uncompromising vocals and lyrics. Acoustic Guitar hails “her sound-scape experiments” while Rolling Stone praises her “evocative vocals, and subtle sonic shading.” She has been described as “riveting” (Chicago Tribune), “hypnotic” (Entertainment Weekly) and “drop-dead brilliant” (Performing Songwriter).

Patty Larkin has always prided herself in her creative approach to music. In 2010, she celebrates a quarter of a century of music making with “25,” a recording of 25 love songs reworked with voice and guitar and 25 friends. Guest artists include Shawn Colvin, Suzanne Vega, Bruce Cockburn, Mary Chapin Carpenter and many others (25 in all).

The Nields story begins with the two sisters. Nerissa and Katryna grew up singing folk songs in the kitchen and in the back seat of the family car. Katryna learned to sing melody with their father, eventually making her an ideal front person for the band. Nerissa, on the other hand, tackled the harmonies; with that skill, she provided a natural counterpoint to her sister's vibrant lead.

The Nields demonstrate that it is possible to return to tradition while growing musically into new sounds.  They have the power to captivate an audience, and before you realize it you’ll be out there singing along.
